Volunteering at Mt Rogers

Volunteering at Mt Rogers

Staff at Mount Rogers Primary acknowledge the importance of strong home school connections and actively encourage parent's participation in their children's education. Early each year a session is held at the school for parents, carers and other people interested in volunteering at the school. Volunteers assist in many ways at our school. These include helping in classrooms, listening to students read, helping in the library, coordinating school banking and the uniform shop, cooking and serving in the canteen, assisting with or leading special programs including lunchtime activities, coordinating Mother's and Father's day events, assisting at sporting or cultural events, transporting students to special events and mentoring in our Building with Blokes Meccano program. The school has links with the Schools Volunteers Program. Information about this program can be found here https://www.education.act.gov.au/working-with-us/working-with-vulnerable-people-registration.

Volunteers must complete Volunteers in Schools Code of Conduct form and submit this document with staff at the school Front Office each year before volunteering. Volunteers are required to sign in at the Front Office as they arrive at school and sign out as they leave. More information regarding this can be found at the Education Directorate website.

All volunteers in school must meet the Working With Vulnerable People legislative requirements. This includes being registered to work with vulnerable people. Information about this can be found at the Office of Regulatory Services on 6207 3000, or at 255 Canberra Avenue FYSHWICK ACT 2609 or via email at wwvp@act.gov.au.

Details of the legislation can be found here.
