An ACT Public School

New Enrolments

Enrolling/Transferring - ACT Public Schools

Parents/carers are welcome to apply to enrol/transfer their son or daughter at any time during the school year using an online application form. Full details are available from the Education website.

The school follows the ACT Education Directorate Policy which describes each school's 'Priority Enrolment Area' (PEA). Students (Preschool - Yr 6) within this area have automatic placement to the area school.  For Mount Rogers Primary School this includes the suburbs of Flynn, Melba and Spence. Contact the school Front Office for any queries and visit the Directorate's PEA information page here.

New Parents to the School

The school encourages all new parents (K-6) to arrange an individual interview with the Principal or Deputy Principal. Parents then have the opportunity to have an individual tour of the school, receive personal and specific answers to your questions and to share relevant information about your child to assist us in meeting individual needs.

Flynn, Melba and Spence Preschools are Mount Rogers School's three preschool units. The preschools are housed in their own buildings in their respective suburbs. Melba Preschool is located adjacent to the K-6 site and the other two are within walking distance to the K-6 primary buildings.  The preschool team consists of Early Childhood qualified professionals who work in close collaboration with the early childhood teachers in the primary setting.

Children turning 4 years of age before April 30 are eligible for preschool.

Information for NSW residents applying for preschool:

All applications from NSW residents for preschool next year, regardless of when they are submitted, will be held by the first school listed on the application and considered early next year.  If you have any queries about this process please call the ACT Education Directorate on 6205 5429.

In Term 4, a Preschool Information Session will be held for families who are offered a preschool placement for their child.

Children turning 5 before April 30 are enrolled in Kindergarten.  Kindergarten children attend school during the normal school hours of 9.00 am - 3.00 pm. Children in our preschools who reside in our PEA, will transition to Kindergarten at Mount Rogers Primary School.

Information for NSW residents applying for kindergarten to year 6 next year:

Applications from NSW residents for kindergarten to year 6 will be processed later in the year.  Our school receives a high number of applications from ACT residents.  We will finalise processing of these applications before we consider NSW applications; this may be as late as Term 4.   If you have any queries about this process please call the ACT Education Directorate on 6205 5429.

Early in Term 2 each year a Kindergarten Information Session is held for parents of preschool students.  At this session parents are introduced to members of the school executive team, learn about key features of Mount Rogers and hear about 'A day in the life of a kindergarten student' from the Kindergarten teachers.  School tours and parent sessions on 'Preparing your child for School' are offered later in the year.

In Term 4, an Orientation Program is arranged for children commencing primary school at the beginning of the next year. Preschool students meet with their 'big school' buddies, participate in singing sessions, tour the school and visit a kinder classroom. Opportunities are available to buy a treat at the school canteen and play on the playground equipment.

Parents from the P&C arrange a welcome morning tea for Kindergarten parents on the first day of school. This provides an opportunity for parents to get to know one another and receive support from 'experienced parents' during this very important settling in time.
