Children turning 4 years of age before April 30 are eligible for preschool.
Mount Rogers Primary School has 3 preschool sites – Flynn, Melba and Spence Preschools. The preschools are housed in their own buildings in their respective suburbs. All preschools are within walking distance to the primary school site.
Expressions of Interest enrolment applications for the next preschool year are to be submitted online via the ACT Education Directorate website. Online applications usually open on the first day of Term 2 of the school year prior to commencement. More information regarding the online enrolment application process, including PEAs is available on the ACT Education Directorate’s website. Online applications may be submitted at any time for current year preschool placements.
Preschools currently operate at 15 hours/week. An Information session (for families of students who have been offered a placement) is held during Term 4 of the year prior to commencement.
Children turning 5 years of age before April 30 are enrolled in Kindergarten. Kindergarten children attend school during normal school hours (9am to 3pm). Children in our preschools who reside in our PEA will transition to Kindergarten at Mount Rogers Primary School.
A Kindergarten Information session is held in Term 2 for parents/carers of preschool children. At this session parents/cares are introduced to members of the school executive team, learn about key features of Mount Rogers Primary School and hear about A day in the life of a Kindergarten student from the Kindergarten teachers.
In Term 4 an Orientation Program is organised for eligible preschool children commencing at Mount Rogers Primary School. Preschool students meet with the ‘big school’ buddies, participate in singing sessions, tour the school and visit a Kindergarten classroom. Opportunities are available to buy a treat at the school canteen and play on the playground equipment.
Parents/carers from the P&C arrange a welcome morning tea for Kindergarten parents/carers on the first day of school. This provides an opportunity for parents/carers to get to know one another and receive support from ‘experienced’ members of the school community during this very important settling-in time.
