Band

Mount Rogers Primary has 2 woodwind bands for Years 5 and 6 students. Students audition for a place in the band at the beginning of Year 5. Acceptance into the band is a two-year commitment. The band has two lessons each week that is taught by a specialist music teacher provided through the ACT Directorate Instrumental Music Program. Details of the Instrumental Music Program can be found at www.imp.act.edu.au. Students in our Year 6 band can audition for the ACT Primary Concert Band.

Banking for Students

Children at our school are encouraged to learn the value of saving and smart money management by participating in the School Banking program. School Banking has been operating in Australian schools since 1931.

Children who regularly participate not only save money, but also receive Dollamite tokens they can redeem for rewards. The program is supported by fun and engaging materials parents can use to help their children learn about money and how to save. More details can be found at www.commbank.com.au.

Our school also benefits financially from the program by receiving $5 for each account activated, and a small commission for each deposit. This program is supported and co-ordinated by our P&C.

Bikes and Scooters

Our school provides an enclosure for storage of bikes and scooters during the school day. The riding of bikes and scooters on the school premises, including the car park, is not permitted. We suggest students provide their own lock and take responsibility for locking up their bike or scooter as soon as they arrive at school. The bike/scooter enclosure is out of bounds during the day.

The wearing of approved helmets is compulsory. This includes all bicycle activities at school.

Book Fair

A book fair is held each year and is usually combined with a special Children’s Week event. It offers a wonderful opportunity to support the school and purchase Christmas or birthday presents.

Breakfast Club

Breakfast club is run on Wednesday mornings from 8:30 - 9:00am in the School Hall and is available for all students and families to attend. This is a free service generously provided by St Pauls Ginninderra Anglican Church.

Buddy Program

Each class is linked to another class through the whole school buddy program. This program offers the opportunity for older students to support/mentor younger students in a safe, caring environment. Year 2 and 3 students are buddies to the preschool students. In second semester each year an extensive orientation program allows preschool students to develop a strong bond with their Year 2 or 3 buddy.

Bus Transport

A number of buses drop off and pick up students from Mount Rogers Primary. Parents with cars are asked not to park against the red curb in the carpark at the front of the school as buses use this to access the bus stop at the front of the school. Information about bus routes can be found at www.transport.act.gov.au.
