About Us

OUR SCHOOL

The school began as Melba Primary in 1973.  In 1998 the Spence and Melba Primary Schools joined to become Mount Rogers Primary School.  Melba, Spence and Flynn preschools are all part of Mount Rogers Primary School P-6 family.

SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY

Learning
Mount Rogers' students are active participants in their education.  Through involvement in decision-making and hands-on learning experiences we recognise and accept individual differences including the abilities, behaviours and cultural backgrounds of each student, while developing positive self-esteem within each child. We value each child and recognise their strengths and needs throughout their development.

Sharing
The success of Mount Rogers Primary School is based on community partnerships as is reflected in our motto “Learning, Sharing, Caring”.  Parents and teachers working together achieve academic and social goals resulting in a quality education for our students.  Links with area preschools, child-care programs, high schools and colleges ensures a seamless path through different levels of schooling.

Caring
Children are guided to take responsibility for their own behaviour, to consider others and the environment, and to develop respect for the rights as well as the responsibilities of all members of the school.  We aim to develop a positive, caring, trusting and supportive student/teacher relationship in all aspects of school life. We believe in the principles of social justice and equity for all members of the school community.
